Mr. Nicholas Yu

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biological Sciences

Science/Chemistry/Biology

Mr Yu has been teaching for more than 10 years, starting off as a private home tutor and eventually progressing into coaching groups.

He has coached over 2000 students ranging from Primary to Junior College in Biology and Chemistry, regularly achieving above national-level distinction rates.

Passionately honing his craft of teaching, he has designed various mnemonics to help students remember daunting concepts while maintaining a discussive and humorous atmosphere in class that encourages students to learn in a non-discriminant environment.

Mr. Teo Wei Ren

Master of Science in Physics

Our resident tutor, Mr Teo, wasn’t always good in mathematics. Plagued by carelessness, his results up to lower secondary was mediocore at best. However, discovering his passion for the sciences provided him the motivation and drive to see the numbers in a different light, which has led him to excel in mathematics ever since.

Having been a struggling student before, Mr Teo fully understands the pitfalls and challenges faced by students when it comes to understanding mathematical concepts.

He graduated from Osaka University with a Masters in Physics and has more than 10 years of teaching experience in private tuition and at an integrated programme school.

Mr. Teng Juin Yan

Mr. Teng has a dream. A dream of cultivating an environment where each student’s distinct needs are welcomed and exalted. Within the secure confines of The Science Academy, Mr. Teng builds a safe haven for students to receive support and acquire essential knowledge and skills, transforming this dream into reality.

After successfully completing his NIE Post Grad Diploma in Education in 2007, Mr. Teng has served in government and independent schools. Since 2017, he has embraced the role of a tutor. With a professional journey spanning well over a decade, during which he has guided students across diverse educational streams and unique needs, Mr. Teng leverages his wealth of experience and resources to stay current with the latest syllabi and pedagogy, ensuring that his students receive the most relevant and effective support.

As a learner himself who values comprehension over rote memorization, Mr. Teng empathizes with the exasperation of struggling to recall precise information. Consequently, he imparts tips and strategies he has amassed from his experiences as both a student and educator to help students confront and overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Ms. Samantha Lau

Bachelor of Business Management

With a strong passion for working with youths and young children, Ms Lau brings past experience as a private tutor, where she has helped students excel academically. She also has prior experience working in a youth organisation, helping her to connect with her students on a deeper level, fostering trust and engagement.

As an alumnus of Raffles Girls’ School and Raffles Institution, Ms Lau vividly recalls the challenges she faced as a student and aspires to guide her students through both their academic and personal journeys, just as her teachers and tutors supported her in her formative years.

Ms Lau believes that building a strong foundation in the early years is critical for long-term success. She focuses on strengthening her students’ understanding of Math and Science during their Primary School years, ensuring they not only master the fundamentals but also develop a genuine love for these subjects. By cultivating a solid academic foundation, Ms Lau hopes to inspire her students to find joy in learning and smoothly transition to higher levels of education in Secondary and Tertiary institutions.

Ms. Megan Koh

Having attended tuition during her secondary school days, Ms. Koh intimately comprehends the demanding nature of students’ daily routines and the academic pressures they encounter. Driven by her fervent desire to cultivate a learning atmosphere where students can derive pleasure from their educational journey, she strives to infuse her teaching with creativity and enthusiasm.

Furthermore, Ms. Koh’s educational journey has equipped her with a solid foundation in the realms of biology and pharmaceuticals. Having graduated with a diploma in Biologics and Process Technology and a degree in Biological Sciences at NTU, she possesses a wealth of knowledge that she is eager to share with her students. Her aspiration is to not only impart academic content but also to instill a sense of curiosity and passion for the sciences, thereby serving as a catalyst for students as they embark on their own scientific endeavours.

Ultimately, Ms. Koh envisions herself as a guiding force, providing students with the necessary tools and inspiration to take their first steps into the captivating world of science.

Ms. Bernice Ng

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Banking and Finance

Science

With a background in banking and finance, Ms Ng brings a strong sense of structure and logic to her teaching. Her lessons are thoughtfully paced to help students grasp key concepts, with light-hearted moments woven in to keep things engaging.

Having gone through the ups and downs of student life herself, Ms Ng understands how overwhelming it can sometimes feel to juggle schoolwork and expectations. This perspective shapes her teaching approach: patient, empathetic, and focused on making learning feel a little less daunting. With a warm and approachable demeanour, she creates a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges at their own pace.

As a tutor, Ms Ng’s goal is simple: to help students enjoy the process of learning and grow a little more confident with each lesson.

Mr. Jared Tham

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Specialised in Aeronautics

Mr Tham strongly believes and is driven by the curiosity to learn beyond what is required to gain mastery over the subject. Being a very curious individual, he loves enquiring to always understand and clear his mist of doubts, which helped smoothen and excel in his academic journey.

Having struggled before at the initial phase of junior college, he understands the obstacles and strategies that would help students tremendously. With more than 6 years of teaching experience and accompanied with his passion for sciences, he strives to spur his students on to acquire such an attitude, and he is so much more than willing to devote himself to them, to ensure they leave no doubts unanswered.

Ms. Hue Zeng Yi

Having exposed herself to a myriad of teaching styles, Ms Hue understands the profound impact of tailoring teaching methods to suit each child's unique learning techniques. Drawing from her childhood experiences, where she had a dislike towards math and physics stemming from incompatible teaching, she is committed to ensuring her students don't face the same challenges.

After discovering a passion for physics, it spurred her on to further her studies in this field. Ms Hue is fuelled with the desire to inspire students, emphasizing that what they learn isn't just confined to textbooks but instead are the mystifying rules of physics that can be experienced in everyday life, if they just look a little closer. With a genuine passion for teaching and learning, Ms Hue strives to instill curiosity and appreciation for the subject, promising a learning environment that extends beyond the classroom.

Mr. Kenji Liew

Mr Liew joins our Primary team with a strong background in private tutoring and social services, where he worked closely with youths — including those facing personal and academic challenges. This experience has shaped him into a deeply patient, empathetic, and highly accountable educator who connects naturally with students and communicates clearly with parents.

At TSA, Mr Liew teaches Primary Science and Mathematics, where his calm and supportive teaching style helps students build understanding and confidence at their own pace. Parents can look forward to a teacher who combines fresh enthusiasm with a strong sense of responsibility and mentorship from our experienced educators.

Ms. Natasha Goh

Bachelor of Biomedical Science

Ms Goh’s journey as a learner has shaped the way she teaches. Growing up, she often found learning challenging and remembers the frustration of not understanding topics no matter how many times she read them. With the guidance of her supportive teachers and tutors, she eventually gained clarity and confidence. These experiences fuel her motivation to guide learners who might be feeling the same way.

Ms Goh focuses on making learning easier to understand by breaking down ideas into simple, relatable examples and learning strategies, with step by step guidance for the students. She believes that every student can grow and improve when concepts are explained in a clear and approachable way. Her lessons emphasize encouragement, understanding, and the belief that progress comes naturally with consistent support.

As a tutor, Ms Goh is dedicated to making learning simple, clear, and a little more fun along the way.

Mr. Derrick Phan

Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences (Undergraduate)

Mr Phan has been teaching since the first year of his undergraduate journey, in both private and group settings.

Through his steady and clear instruction, he has seen and helped multiple struggling students achieve their desired grade improvement they once thought were out of reach.

Armed with a Mathematical Sciences degree from NTU, Mr Phan brings with him a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and a gift for explaining them clearly. His passion lies in making math accessible, engaging, and achievable, no matter your starting point.
